Have you taken your children to a live theater performance? According to a study from the University of Arkansas, exposure to live theater can lead to «greater tolerance and improved ability to read the emotions of others.» I have taken my children to performances since they were old enough to sit in a seat. You can start with simple, short performances at your community rec center or amateur theater club and work up to full-length performances.

In school, the arts are in constant competition with fundamentals andstandardized testing. As parents, we can ensure that our children’s exposure to music, theater and similarly creative endeavors are still present by seeking out events in the community and making arts a priority.
